Tips For Saving On Airfare This Holiday Season

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Airfares should not be your number one expense this holiday season. CEO of CheapAir.com, Jeff Klee, joined KCAL9 Wednesday to help provide travelers with ways to find cheap airfares.

When planning flights during the busy holiday season it can be tricky to find the dates and rates that suit your schedule and budget. Klee provided tips that can help ease your way through the skies this season:

Be flexible with dates. Adjusting by a day or two can save the traveler hundreds of dollars at times.

Search alternate airports. Research is key when trying to save this year on airfares. You want to weigh out your options and make sure there are no hidden fees.

Check fares early and often. When choosing an airline, make sure to check their hidden bag fees and incorporate that into your costs when comparing airlines.

If you see a good option, grab it. Certain airlines are charging more for better seats making it difficult to have family members sit next to each other without paying more. Window and aisle seats are a bit pricier so take that into consideration when booking your seats.

Be realistic. Holiday travel is more expensive than other times of year. Due to higher fuel prices and fewer airline flights, domestic flights are running for an average of $23 more this Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's than last year.
