Ex-Long Beach Officer Guilty Of Assaulting Wife With Belt, Baton, Flashlight
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County prosecutors say a former Long Beach police officer has been convicted of repeatedly assaulting his wife at their home using a belt, baton and flashlight in some attacks.
Spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons says 30-year-old Brandon Preciado was convicted Tuesday of 13 felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, corporal injury to a spouse and other crimes.
The assaults occurred at the couple's home from Sept. 18, 2011 until Jan. 12, when Preciado was arrested following a standoff with authorities. Preciado was a Long Beach police officer at the time of his arrest.
The Los Angeles Superior Court jury deliberated for a day before reaching the verdict.
Preciado is due for sentencing Oct. 29. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in state prison.
