Remains Identified As Missing UCLA Student

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Remains found along a Pacific Palisades trail have been positively identified as those of missing UCLA student, David John Goeser.

Goeser, who was said to have suffered from depression, was last seen by his roommates at his Westwood apartment on the morning of July 22.

On July 25, the 22-year-old's white Toyota Corolla was found near the entrance of the Los Liones Canyon trailhead, near the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades.

On Saturday, two hikers came across a skull and skeletal remains of a human torso in the 500 block of Los Liones Drive, just a few hundred yards from where his car was abandoned, Goeser's family said in a statement.

The Los Angeles County Coroner positively identified Goeser's remains Wednesday, officials said.

"After a year of struggling with severe depression, David took his own life. Pathology reports revealed that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound," the family said.

A semiautomatic pistol was found next to the body, according to police.

A memorial service will be held for Goeser on Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village.
