PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — A young man is dead following a shooting early Wednesday morning in the San Gabriel Valley.

The shooting happened just after midnight in the 1700 block of Newport Avenue in Pasadena.

When police arrived, they found an unidentified man in his 20s suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was transported to a local hospital where he died, officials said.

Police established a two-block perimeter of the area to search for the suspect.

Authorities did not say what prompted the shooting. It is unknown if it was gang related.
