Encino Broker Charged In 6-Month LA Vandalism Spree

BEVERLY HILLS (AP) — Prosecutors have charged a 58-year-old investment broker with going on a six-month vandalism spree, smashing more than 75 windows of homes and businesses in Beverly Hills and the San Fernando Valley.

Deputy District Attorney Annemarie Acosta says 12 charges were filed Thursday against Michael Steven Poret — six felony vandalism charges, five weapons charges and one felony count of methamphetamine possession.

The Encino resident is accused of using a slingshot to send metal projectiles through windows from Jan. 27 to July 3.

Prosecutors say he was first arrested July 3 after vandalizing a home for the second time. He was arrested again July 12.

The damage is estimated at between $65,000 and $125,000.

Poret is due for arraignment Sept. 28. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years, eight months.
