COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A family altercation lead to the shooting death of a South Los Angeles man Sunday.

The murder happened around 8:40 p.m. in the 1200 block of East Golden Street in Compton, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department officials said.

Investigators say some sort of altercation took place between an unidentified 18-year-old suspect and family members.

“The suspect left the location, but later returned and shot the victim multiple times in the upper torso,” Deputy Irys Alvarez said in a statement.

The victim, a Hispanic man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting is believed to be gang-related, officials said.

Authorities are searching for the suspect who fled the scene.
