HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban will join the star-studded cast of judges on “American Idol.”

The American singing competition made the announcement on its website on Sunday.

Minaj and Urban will join Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson for the 12th Season, which premieres in Jan. 2013.

Emmy-nominated show host Ryan Seacrest took to Twitter on Sunday with the news.

Urban also tweeted, “SO excited to be joining the team on @AmericanIdol!!!!!! -KU”

Steven Tyler and
Jennifer Lopez announced in July that they were leaving the show after two seasons.

Tyler first made his announcement on July 12, followed by Lopez the next day.
