LA County High School Senior Chosen For Electoral College

SIMI VALLEY (AP) — A 18-year-old Los Angeles County high school senior has been selected as a member of the nation's Electoral College.

The Ventura County Star reported Saturday that Chris Tumbeiro, who attends a high school located in Simi Valley on the northern outskirts of Los Angeles, is believed to be the first high school student ever chosen.

He was selected by Lee Rogers, a Democratic congressional candidate.

California has 55 electoral votes, one for each congressional district and two senators. The state Democratic Party asks its congressional and senate nominees to select college appointees.

Rogers says he knows of one other 18-year-old Electoral College member from Iowa, but no other high school student.

Rogers says he wanted to choose someone different from the typical appointee of a longtime party activist.
