Getty Center Reopens, Wildfire 40 Percent Contained

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles fire officials say they expect to fully contain a wildfire near the Getty Center art museum above Interstate 405 on Sunday.

Getty Center spokeswoman Julie Jaskol said Saturday that the art museum has reopened after evacuating visitors and staff as a precaution Friday after the fire broke out at about 3:30 Friday afternoon on the east side of the Interstate 405 in the Sepulveda Pass.

Fire Department Lt. Brian Humphrey said Saturday that 150 firefighters and several helicopters are battling the blaze, which has burned 90 acres of brush.

The fire is 40 percent contained, but Humphrey says crews are on track to full containment sometime Sunday.

Humphrey urges visitors to use detours to get to the mountain-top site as some freeway offramps may be closed.
