Brush Fire Erupts In Rustic Canyon Area

RUSTIC CANYON (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters are battling a brush fire along Rustic Canyon Road on the Westside.

Fire Department Lt. Brian Humphrey says the fire at 3000 Rustic Canyon Road erupted about 12:30 p.m. Saturday near Topanga State Park.

As of 10:30 p.m. Saturday, the fire was reportedly holding at 30 acres with about 75% containment, officials reported.

Humphrey told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO that about 200 firefighters were dispatched to the firefight, along with five helicopters.

Two Super Scoopers were also assigned.

No structures were immediately threatened and no injuries have been reported.

His last update Saturday evening said unless the fire escalates, there would be no further updates until mid-morning Sunday.

He also added the fire was now smoldering with "no active flame."

[UPDATE] Sunday 8:20 p.m. The fire is 100% contained. Officials now say the fire consumed seven acres, not 30. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
