ANAHEIM (CBS) — Authorities say an autopsy was pending on a 17-year-old girl struck by an Amtrak train in Anaheim Friday.
Officials said the unidentified girl had been drinking with friends on the tracks.
The accident under the Riverside (91) Freeway, west of Raymond Avenue, was reported at 11:42 p.m. Friday, according to Anaheim police.
The girl was declared dead at the scene, said Anaheim police Sgt. Wayne Alonso.
The group saw the train approach.
“They tried to get out of the way,” Alonso told the Orange County Register. “She reached back for her purse and was struck by the train.”
