Police Identify Murder Suspect Involved In Downtown Pursuit

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A murder and robbery suspect who led police on more than an hour-long pursuit through downtown Los Angeles was listed in critical but stable condition Wednesday.

The pursuit started around 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Westlake area when police recognized the suspect's car, which had been reported stolen in Studio City earlier in the day, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Ian Schlesinger, 24, was allegedly involved with the armed carjacking of that vehicle. The LAPD said he was also wanted for a murder committed in July.

The chase went from downtown L.A. to Echo Park and back, ending around 7:15 p.m. at Bixel and 7th streets when Schlesinger hit a car.

He then exited the vehicle and pulled out a semi-automatic rifle. Schlesinger shot at officers before police returned fire, hitting the suspect multiple times.

Schlesinger was transported to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.

No one else was injured in the incident.

The shooting was under investigation.
