Man, 31, Allegedly Kidnaps Ex-Girlfriend, Leads Police On Car Chase

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Police say they arrested a 31-year-old man suspected of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend after they spotted him ramming the victim's car into squad cars.

Juan Manuel Reyes was allegedly driving a black 2007 Toyota Camry on the 2100 block of East First Street, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

The suspect was repeatedly plowing the vehicle into Costa Mesa police patrol cars and officers recognized the driver and vehicle from a police report, Bertagna said.

Just days earlier, Santa Ana police had put out a bulletin for his arrest after his former girlfriend came forward saying Reyes had held her captive for 11 days and had stolen her car.

Reyes kidnapped the woman on Aug. 30 and moved her from various motels in the area, until she was able to escape Sunday, Bertagna said.

After seeing Reyes Tuesday afternoon officers tried to detain him, but he refused to yield for a traffic stop.

Officers pursued Reyes, at one point possibly firing shots at his vehicle, until he crashed at Sunflower Avenue and Main Street.
