LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police officers shot a man dead after he allegedly came at them with a knife in Long Beach Tuesday, authorities reported.
Police were called to a home in the 1900 block of East Hardwick Street at 1:45 p.m., Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Nancy Pratt said.
A woman told an emergency dispatcher that a male relative had a weapon and he was yelling that he wanted to be killed by police.
Officers responding to the call were met at the door by the unidentified suspect, who attacked them with a knife, Pratt said.
Police fired several fatal rounds at the suspect. Officers said they performed CPR on the man until paramedics arrived, at which point the suspect was pronounced dead.
Pratt said additional knives were found inside the home.
Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
