LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The suspect who led police on a long pursuit in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday had a brother who died in a similar incident two years ago.
A law enforcement source confirmed to CBS2/KCAL9 that Jack Schlesinger, 25, was involved in a deadly police chase in September 2010.
Police spotted Schlesinger in a stolen car. He was confronted in the 1600 block of West Temple in Los Angeles.
“The suspect stopped the vehicle, exited carrying an assault-type rifle, and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” said Officer Mitzi Grasso from the Los Angeles Police Department.
Schlesinger died at the scene.
The assault rifle he was carrying was reportedly an AK-47, the same type of rifle the suspect in Tuesday’s pursuit was reported to have used against officers.
Police still have not confirmed if the suspects are brothers.
