Body Recovered In Dana Point Identified As Missing Rowland Heights Man

DANA POINT (CBSLA.com) — The body of a missing swimmer was found about 100 yards offshore at Monarch Beach in Dana Point on Saturday.

Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff's Harbor Patrol made the discovery around 8:45 a.m.

By early Sunday morning, they confirmed to CBS2 that the body was that of 34-year-old Frank Daniel Austin.

The Rowland Heights man had vanished in the water off of Salt Creek Beach on Sept. 2.

Strong rip currents and high surf at the time of Austin's disappearance hampered divers' efforts.

The U.S. Coast Guard, the Orange County Harbor Patrol and Orange County lifeguards joined the search for Austin, which was called off late the following day.
