100 Chickens Recovered In Willowbrook Cock Fighting Bust

WILLOWBROOK (CBSLA.com) — Nearly 100 chickens were rescued by county authorities after sheriff's deputies broke up a large cock fighting ring in Willowbrook.

On Sept. 1, deputies responded to a report of a possible cock fight at a residence in the 2400 block of 130th Street.

In the back of the property, approximately 100 chickens were found housed in separate outdoor coops to prevent them from fighting, officials said.

"At the center of the yard was a boxed-in ring measuring where the cock fights were staged," officials said in a statement.

Bottles of hormones and syringes were also found on the property.

"The birds are commonly injected with hormones to increase their size and to enhance their aggressiveness," authorities said.

Several people associated with the ring were detained and questioned. Officials did not say if any arrests were made.

Los Angeles County Animal Control took over care of the chickens and is continuing the investigation.
