Domestic Dispute Leads To Police Standoff In Canoga Park

CANOGA PARK (CBSLA.com) — Police on Thursday surrounded the Canoga Park home of a reputed gang member after reports of a domestic dispute.

Officers responded to a 911 call just after 6 a.m. from the wife of a man possibly armed with a gun at a residence along the 7300 block of Remmett Avenue near Sherman Way, according to LAPD Topanga Division.

The couple reportedly had a fight and police say the man has a history of shooting firearms from his home.

"The wife got scared after the argument and thought the husband was going crazy, and met with the officers outside," an LAPD Watch Commander told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO.

SWAT officers were called in for backup as police roped off a two-block perimeter shortly before 8:00 a.m., the Watch Commander said.

"We don't want to make a rushed decision and have a shootout with him, so we're taking our time," he said.

Some surrounding residences were evacuated
