Dirty Adult Diapers Dumped More Than 50 Times In Several OC Cities

CORONA DEL MAR (CBSLA.com) — Officials say there have been more than 50 incidents where used adult diapers have been dumped illegally in Newport Beach and Laguna Beach since January.

The latest incident happened Tuesday on East Coast Highway between Cameo Highlands Drive and Morning Canyon Road in Corona del Mar.

"Newport Beach Police Detectives have contacted local assisted living facilities and feel confident that they are not responsible for these incidents," Newport Beach spokeswoman Kathy Lowe said. "We are seeking the public's assistance in identifying who may be responsible for illegally dumping the diapers in the roadway."

Lowe says there have been about seven incidents in Newport Beach. As many as 15 were also reported in Laguna Beach between June 27 and Aug. 26, Sgt. Louise Callus of the Laguna Beach Police Department said.

"There have been anywhere from 3 to 4 individual to 3 bags full of used adult diapers being placed within the lanes of traffic between the North City limits of Laguna and the Emerald Bay Main Entrance. It's being done in the early morning hours," Callus said. "At this time, I have no suspect information."

Dumping or depositing waste or garbage on the roadway is considered a misdemeanor, according to Callus.

Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
