The fatal incident happened about 5:30 a.m. near Western Avenue and 85th Street, Officer Sara Faden of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The victim was walking westbound in a crosswalk from 85th when she was struck by a dark-colored medium-sized SUV traveling southbound on Western Avenue, Faden said.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died within an hour of the crash, Faden said. Her name was not released pending notification of kin.
