Police: Boy, 10, Filed False Report About Saving His Sister From Would-Be Kidnapper

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) —  Officials say a 10-year-old boy filed a false police report claiming he prevented a would-be kidnapper from taking his 1-year-old sister.

The boy called police Thursday to report that he and his sister were walking through their apartment complex in the 6500 block of Telephone Road when a man allegedly grabbed them from behind and threw them to the ground, according to Ventura police.

The boy said the man picked up his sister, covered her mouth and began to walk away. The child claimed he then kicked the man and his sister fell to the ground, which prompted the suspect to flee.

However, authorities released the following statement Friday:

"Due to the serious nature of this crime, the Ventura Police Investigations Division conducted a follow-up investigation. During their investigation they re-contacted the victim and his family to obtain additional information. At that time investigators learned that the incident was a false report and the crime never occurred. Due to the age of child that made the false report, no further investigation will occur."
