DANA POINT (CBSLA.com) — A pair of Texas fisherman caught a nearly 1,000 pound Mako shark off the coast of Orange County Thursday.
The 917-pound shark was caught around 3:30 p.m. by Brian Cope and Craig Winters, who were on a sport fishing expedition off Dana Point.
The trip marked Cope’s first time to California and fishing in the ocean.
“I was scared to death,” Cope said.
The men fought with the shark for four hours and were nearly pulled into the water before the 10-foot fish was reeled in.
“This is the most physically demanding thing I have ever done. It’s like pulling a truck,” said Winters.
Cope and Winter plan to eat the shark.
