DANA POINT (CBSLA.com) — Passengers on a whale-watching trip Monday off the Orange County coast got a rare treat – a “high five” from a humpback whale.
The whale was lob-tailing, or lifting its tail out of the water and slapping it against the surface of the water. The move sometimes produces a very loud sound.

The sighting was made aboard the Ocean Adventures catamaran, and a spokesperson for the company says they see less than a dozen of these endangered animals a year.
