UPDATE 11 PM A little more than five hours after the crash, the big rig was hauled away and all lanes of the 5 Freeway have been reopened.
BURBANK (CBS) — A fiery crash on the 5 Freeway in Burbank stalled traffic for miles in both directions Friday evening, according to the CHP.
The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans remained on scene hours after the crash which caused hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel to spill across both lanes of the freeway.
Rob Schmitt, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, said the crash involving three vehicles, including a big-rig, occurred just before 5 p.m.
A subsequent fire may have caused road damage, say witnesses at the scene.
The crash occurred near the Hollywood Way off-ramp.
One lane in each direction of the highway remained blocked as of 9 p.m., Schmitt said.
