Free Job Fair Draws Hundreds To Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Hundreds of people are trying to find work at a job fair in Santa Ana, one of several scheduled for this week in the Southern California area.

Twenty-five companies are offering jobs in retail, management and sales at the Hire Live job fair in Santa Ana. Some of those companies include Forest Lawn, Hershey's, PennySaver and Zillow.com.

"I'm just excited to be here, I hope to make some good contacts," Jayson of Trabuco Canyon told KNX 1070's Ed Mertz.

Jayson has been out of work for six months.

"I've had the big house, the big cars, I've had all of that. And then when you have nothing again, there's some humility and shame," Jayson said.

According to the latest data, the state's employers have added 25,200 jobs in July, the largest month-over-month increase in the nation, according to the California Employment Development Department.

"Our events are getting larger from last year and the year before, so that's a good sign," Hire Live Vice President Dan Sparks said.

However, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 10.7 percent – but that's still down from a peak of 12.4 percent in 2010.

Hire Live has job fairs Wednesday in Los Angeles and San Diego, and in the Inland Empire on Thursday, and registration is free. For more information, visit HireLive.com.
