Snorkeler's Husband Speaks Publicly For First Time Since Her Body Was Found

MARINA DEL REY (CBSLA.com) — The husband of a Marina Del Rey woman is speaking out for the first time since her body was found off the shores of Palos Verdes Saturday.

Rebecca Weiss, 50, never returned home after going for a dive by herself on Aug. 11.

Her husband, Alan, called police after he allegedly found her belongings on the sand near the Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes, and her car in the parking lot. Rebecca's family said she often went snorkeling there and that she was a strong swimmer.

Weiss' body was found 200 yards offshore Saturday.

On Sunday evening, Weiss texted CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Carter Evans. He wrote, "I will be thanking all of the people who worked so hard to help me find my best friend, Rebecca. I owe them so much."

The coroner told Evans that while the autopsy on Rebecca's body was complete, the cause of death was being "deferred pending further investigation."

Evans explains, "The coroner said this could mean several things. It could mean the doctor who examined her body could be close to determining a cause of death but might require further investigation. It could also mean the cause of a death is being withheld from the public pending the results of a police investigation."

Homicide detectives say Alan Weiss is being cooperative with the investigation.

Rebecca's mother has said that she believes her son-in-law was having an affair and that he didn't seem to care that his wife was missing.

"Inside Edition" asked Alan Weiss what he thought of the allegations that he might have been involved in Rebecca's death.

"That doesn't matter. People who know me know me," Weiss said.
