Long Beach Police Say Murder Suspect Is In Custody

LONG BEACH (CBS) — Long Beach police have announced the arrest of a suspect wanted for the murder of his girlfriend and the mother of his three children.

Marcos Gustavo Zermeno, 24, is accused of murdering 22-year-old Eleonora Rivera Hidalgo.

A report on the Long Beach police website says Zermeno is in custody. No details of the arrest were released.

On Saturday, August 4, 2012, at approximately 10:35 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to report of a shooting at a mobile home park in the 6400 block of Atlantic Avenue.

Once on scene, they discovered Hidalgo's body inside a vehicle parked at a residence within the park.

Hidalgo, who had sustained a gunshot wound to her upper torso, was being treated by witnesses. She was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The preliminary investigation revealed that prior to the shooting, the victim and the suspect were arguing inside the car.

After a gunshot was heard, the suspect was seen fleeing.

He reportedly attempted to steal an unoccupied vehicle and was last seen jumping over a fence and fleeing on foot.

The victim and suspect lived together at the location and shared three children, ages seven, six, and two.

The children are now in the care of family.

Zermeno is a known gang member and has a tattoo on his lower right neck that reads "Eleonora."
