SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — Special Victims Bureau detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have arrested a suspect in the attempted rape of a 19-year old woman which occurred inside her home.

The victim was asleep Saturday at 5:50AM, when she was awakened by noises inside her home in the 27500 block of Sierra Highway, Santa Clarita.

The woman walked out of her bedroom and found the suspect standing in her living room. When the victim told the suspect to leave, he responded by punching her in the face. The suspect then placed the victim in a bear hug and reportedly told her that he was going to rape her.

The victim fought back. She screamed for help as he began dragging the victim towards her bedroom. The startled suspect released his hold and the victim was able to run out of her apartment and get help.

Before deputies arrived, the suspect fled from the location.

During their on-scene investigation, deputies were able to identify the suspect.

They located him in nearby Saugus.

Deputies arrested suspect Adan Martinez, a 34 year-old resident of Santa Clarita, without incident. He was booked at Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station on charges of attempted rape and burglary.

Bail was set at $100,000.00

The victim sustained minor injuries during the scuffle. She was treated at a local hospital and released.
