LA CRESCENTA (CBSLA.com) — A powerful crash involving a big rig on the eastbound (210) Freeway has caused traffic delays in La Crescenta.
The crash involving a stalled big rig and truck was reported at 3:29 p.m. Friday at Lowell Avenue near La Tuna Canyon.
Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said a motorist who may have struck the rear of the big rig had to be freed from the vehicle.
That person was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition, he added.
The crash led to a massive rush-hour traffic snarl with officials shutting down the freeway in both directions from Lowell to Sunland while a medical helicopter landed on the roadway.
KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO reports that the accident is expected to be cleared shortly.
As of 4:45 p.m., two lanes of the eastbound freeway remained closed, while all westbound lanes were re-opened. For the latest, click here.
