Live, Interactive Online Cat Playroom Installed At Mission Hills Shelter

MISSION HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A live, interactive cat playroom installed at the Best Friends Animal Society allows any online user to play with shelter animals remotely by clicking a mouse to control robotic toys.

"It adds a whole new element to the adoption process and adding awareness to shelter pets," said the center's Sarah Schanz.

The iPet Companion installation was sponsored by KONG. The company's motto is "pets need to play."

Users can watch the cats play on a live video stream.

"The cameras rotate and focuses on toys, which are activated by users on the website," said Schanz. "They can move the camera, zoom the camera, zoom into a toy or into a cat."

Adoption centers that have already installed the systems have reported higher cat adoption rates, increased donations, increased web traffic, and positive media coverage within their communities.

The cats at the Best Friends Animal Society can be played with here.
