Target To Hire 250 Employees For New Downtown Location

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Target is holding a hiring fair Thursday to staff a new downtown location slated to open in October.

"I love the uniform. It shows that we work together, we are in-sync, we are one. So that's totally something that I'm into. I shop there all the time so it would be awesome!" 19-year-old Jilise Matthews said.

Matthews is one of many who applied Thursday to the new City Target at 7th and Figueroa.

The Minnesota-based company is looking to hire 250 staffers from cashiers to stock room positions.

"We are completely remodeling it. It's a sleek new Target design, and it's just going to be great for our urban guests," said Simone Patro from Target.

Interviews are being held at the Olympic Collection Conference Center, 11301 W. Olympic Boulevard, in West LA.

Interested applicants are encouraged to apply in advance online.

"It is rare in retail right now that Target is expanding, where other companies are closing stores. So we have a bright outlook, we are doing well financially, we are opening new stores, new concepts. So City Target is one of those new concepts," Patro said.

The hiring fair is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Saturday.

The downtown City Target is scheduled to open on Oct. 14.
