Santa Monica Resident Sues City For $1.7 Billion Over Parking Meters

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — A Santa Monica woman sued the city for $1.7 billion because she believes newly-installed parking meters are making her sick.

Denise Barton claims radiation from the "smart" parking meters is causing ringing in her ears, ear infections and tightness in her neck.

She said evidence shows the low-level radiation may cause cancer and other illnesses.

A city spokesperson said the Wi-Fi is a very low level and only occurs when a credit card is used or a car arrives or departs.

They said it's the same as someone using a cell phone on the sidewalk.
