ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Los Angeles Angels pitching coach Mike Butcher has been suspended for one game following a weekend argument over balls and strikes.
Major League Baseball also fined Butcher an undisclosed amount. He was penalized for leaving the dugout to dispute the calls and for “aggressively arguing.”
Butcher was to serve the suspension Tuesday night when the Angels host Cleveland.
Butcher was ejected three batters into Sunday’s game against Seattle. He complained after two straight borderline pitches by Angels ace Jered Weaver and argued nose-to-nose with plate umpire Mike Estabrook. The Mariners wound up winning 4-1.
