OC Gang Member Gets Life For 1995 Slaying

SANTA ANA (AP) — A member of a Vietnamese gang has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the retaliation murder of a fellow gang member in 1995.

The Orange County District Attorney's office says 36-year-old Anthony Johnson Jr. was sentenced Friday after being convicted by a jury of murder and related charges. Three other gang members are awaiting sentencing in the same case.

Prosecutors say the four men were found guilty of killing of Viet Nguyen as payback for fleeing the scene of a home invasion robbery in Huntington Beach in February 1995 because he feared the robbery victim may have recognized him.

The four men then killed their associate in a scenario that made the murder look like a drug deal gone bad.

The case went cold until 2006.
