Man Accused In 1998 Stabbing Death Of Pregnant Girlfriend Nabbed In Mexico

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mexican authorities have arrested a fugitive wanted in Riverside County in connection with the 1998 stabbing death of his nine-month pregnant ex-girlfriend and the attempted killing of her mother.

The FBI said Friday that 37-year-old Jose Moreno Castillo was arrested by Mexican law enforcement near Guadalajara on Tuesday.

He is charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Inez Gonzalez and her unborn daughter, and attempted murder for the stabbing of Gonzalez's mother in Moreno Valley.

The Riverside County District Attorney's office says the mother identified Castillo as the assailant.

The FBI says Castillo was on probation at the time for a 1996 stabbing in Los Angeles County.

Castillo had been living in Mexico allegedly under an assumed name, but was matched by fingerprints. An extradition request is pending.
