LA Prosecutor Wants To Clamp Down On Ticket Scalpers

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles city attorney wants to clamp down on ticket scalpers by using the same legal tool used to keep gang members from congregating in certain areas.

Carmen Trutanich is seeking court injunctions to bar 17 scalpers from being near Dodger Stadium, Staples Center and other major venues.

The Los Angeles Times reports it's already illegal to sell tickets over face value, or to sell tickets on the streets, but tougher enforcement hasn't affected the scalpers.

If a judge approves the injunction, defendants could face six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine for each violation.

Some legal experts expressed concern that the injunctions are being extended to non-violent criminals on low-level crimes.
