Cyclist Severely Injured In Central City Hit-And-Run

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police say a cyclist is recovering with severe head injuries Monday after being struck in a hit-and-run accident in the Central City area of Los Angeles.

The bicyclist was riding eastbound on 32nd Street when he was struck by a pickup truck going southbound on Central Avenue at 9 p.m. Sunday, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Kevin Custard said.

Custard said the driver did not stop to help the bicyclist and kept driving southbound on Central.

The cyclist, a 32-year-old man from Huntington Park, was taken to County USC Medical Center.

"He has some pretty severe head injuries," Custard said.

The truck was described as a 1992- to 1998-model red Chevrolet Silverado flatbed, with white painted panels.

Investigators plan to check surveillance videos at businesses at the intersection to see if they captured the accident, Custard said.

The driver will face felony hit-and-run charges.
