SUV Crashes Into North Hills Apartment Building

NORTH HILLS (CBS) — Authorities are searching for the driver of a SUV who crashed the vehicle into a San Fernando Valley apartment building and fled.

The accident happened around 2:35 a.m. Thursday in the 15000 block of Parthenia Street.

Police say the driver lost control of a Dodge Durango and slammed into the building, damaging one unit.

"I was watching TV and I hear the tires screech and I hear a crash and the building shook," said Ivan Tellez, a resident in the building.

The female driver fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a passenger who suffered minor injuries. He was treated and released by paramedics.

The passenger said the woman was driving erratically before she crashed.

A mother and her 1-year-old daughter were sleeping in a bed when the SUV hit the building. No one was hurt, however the woman, her daughter and two other family members were displaced. They are receiving aid from the American Red Cross, police said.

Officials also evacuated two additional units. Inspectors will examine the structural integrity of the building.
