Skeletal Remains Of Missing FBI Agent Found In Burbank

BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — The skeletal remains of a missing FBI agent have been found behind a San Gabriel Valley church.

The remains of 36-year-old Steven Ivens were found Monday evening by two hikers in a secluded area off an access road behind St. Francis Church in the 3600 block of Scott Rd., according to Sgt. Darin Ryburn of the Burbank Police Department.

"Investigators responded to the area and noted consistencies with the physical description of missing FBI Agent Stephen Ivens," he said.

A weapon was recovered from the scene, but the cause of death is still unknown, Ryburn told KNX 1070.

Ivens, who also once worked as an LAPD officer out of the Hollywood Division, mysteriously vanished from his Burbank neighborhood the evening of May 11.

Authorities say he was despondent and possibly suicidal when he left home.

A recovery team is still on scene.

Ivens, who specialized in national security, had been with the FBI for more than three years at the time of his disappearance.
