STUDIO CITY (CBS) — While family history plays a role in breast cancer risk, doctors say you have control over one of the biggest factors that could prevent the disease.
To talk more about this and offer breast cancer prevention tips, Dr. Lawrence D. Wagman appeared on KCAL9 News on Saturday morning.
Dr. Wagman, an oncologic surgeon, serves as the executive medical director at the Center for Cancer Prevention and Treatment at St. Joseph Hospital.
His breast cancer prevention tips include:
1. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise, as well as, maintaining a correct weight, healthy diet and moderate alcohol intake;
2. Know your family history of breast and ovarian cancer;
3. Know your calculated risk;
4. Ask your doctor about medications to prevent cancer such as Tamoxifen, Raloxifene and Exemestane.
