Police Seek Owner Of Urn Dropped Off By Transient At El Monte Church
EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — The mystery surrounding the owner of an urn, filled with what appears to be cremated remains, continues to puzzle police Friday.
A Latino man, wearing socks on his hands, dropped the urn off at an El Monte church on July 20, police said.
“He wore socks over his hands in an apparent attempt to keep his finger prints off the vessel,” the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported.
The man reportedly told church officials that he wanted nothing to do with the ashes and wished for it to be returned to the family, the paper reported.
Police believe the man was a transient who is in his 40s with long black hair, possibly in a ponytail.
More than a week later, El Monte police are still puzzled about the rightful owner of the remains.
There was no name or other identifying information on the urn, the Tribune said.
