LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Mexican-American actress Lupe Ontiveros has died at the age of 69.
Ontiveros, who was suffering from liver cancer, passed away July 26, according to her agent, Michael Greenwald.
She is best known for her role as Yolanda Saldivar in “Selena” and starring with Jack Nicholson and Greg Kinnear in “As Good As It Gets.”
Other acting credits include: “The Goonies,” “Real Women Have Curves,” and “Desperate Housewives,” which earned her an Emmy nomination for her role as Juanita “Mama” Solis.
“I’m deeply saddened at the news of my dear friend Lupe Ontiveros passing,” “Housewives” star Eva Longoria tweeted Friday. “She was more than a colleague to me, she was my family. My heart is with your family Lupe…”
“R.I.P. Lupe Ontiveros thank you for all your work and being a Pioneer,” “Selena” co-star Luis Guzman wrote on Twitter.
Ontiveros is survived by her husband and three children.
