405 Freeway Closure Begins Tuesday In The Sepulveda Pass

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Portions of the 405 freeway near Skirball Center Drive will close Tuesday night and continue for about two weeks as contractors prepare to conduct the demolition of the south half of the Skirball Bridge.

The closures will take place at the Southbound 405 from the 101 freeway to Getty Center Drive, Northbound 405 freeway from Getty Center Drive to Ventura Blvd., and the Skirball Bridge.

Officials say freeway lanes will begin to close at about 10 p.m. and the ramps within the 405 closure limits will begin to close as early as 7 p.m.

The full closure will take place between midnight and reopen at 5 a.m.

Contractors will begin their work along the Sepulveda Pass Tuesday night and continue with this portion of the project until Aug. 3.

Officials say drivers can use Sepulveda Blvd. as it will remain open during the nights of the bridge demolition and will be used as a detour route.

List of closures:

Southbound 405 freeway from the 101 Freeway to Getty Center Drive will take place on July 24, 25 and 30.

Northbound 405 freeway from Getty Center Drive to Ventura Blvd. will take place on July 26, 27 and 31. Closures will occur again on Aug. 1-3.

The Skirball Bridge closures will take place from July 30 to Aug. 3.

The closures are part of the 405 Sepulveda Improvement Project which includes the widening of 13 existing underpasses and structures, removing and replacing bridges along Skirball Center Dr., Sunset Blvd., and Mulholland Drive bridges and other improvements aimed at reducing traffic congestion and enhancing future mobility.
