HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — Warner Bros. announced Monday that “The Dark Night Rises” earned $160.9 million during its opening weekend despite the theater shooting massacre in Aurora, Colo.
Studios withheld weekend official box office numbers Sunday in the wake of Friday’s tragic event.
The film had the third-highest debut behind two 3D films, “The Avengers” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2”, according to Hollywood.com Box Office.
“The Dark Night” debuted with $158 million in 2008.
