CARSON (CBS) — The Los Angeles Galaxy will be collecting new and gently used soccer gear on Saturday prior to its game against the Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center in Carson.
The LA Galaxy is encouraging fans to drop off jerseys, shorts, shoes, balls and shin guards. The Galaxy Drive Series is a community initiative where the LA Galaxy assists children and local non-profits in the Los Angeles area.
All equipment can be dropped off at any collection booth located outside each entrance of the stadium. The game on Saturday kicks off at 7 p.m.
The team says the first 200 fans that donate soccer equipment will receive a United Healthcare Galaxy Drive Series player card signed by LA Galaxy defender A.J. De La Garza and a cooler bag.
All fans that donate gear will be entered into a drawing to win an Adidas soccer ball signed by members of the LA Galaxy team.
The LA Galaxy’s equipment drive on Saturday will be the first of four similar Galaxy Drive Series that will take place at the Home Depot Center during the second half of the 2012 MLS season.
