Man Accused Of Sexually Battering Woman In Front Of Her Husband

LOS ANGELES (CBS) —  A 31-year-old man was behind bars Sunday for allegedly groping a woman while her husband stood nearby, sheriff's officials said.

Alexis Husmario Torres was taken into custody Friday near First and Hill streets -- where authorities said the attack happened.

Officials also said Torres did not go down without a fight.

A woman was getting out of her husband's car at the location about 11 a.m. when Torres reportedly reached from behind her, took hold of her arm and groped her chest, sheriff's officials said.

The woman's husband thought Torres tried to rob his wife, contacted sheriff's deputies walking in the area and pointed the suspect out near a bus stop, sheriff's officials said.

Authorities said Torres "was uncooperative and fought with deputies," resulting in minor injuries to the deputies and the suspect. They were all treated at hospitals.

Torres was booked for sexual battery, battery on a peace officer and possessing counterfeit identification. He is being held in a housing unit for persons with possible mental illness in the Los Angeles County Jail. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
