2 Seriously Injured Following Hit-And-Run Crash In Sylmar

SYLMAR (CBS) — A 23-year-old man was behind bars on Saturday on suspicion of fleeing the scene of a traffic collision that left two people seriously injured.

Police said in a news release that the accident occurred about 11:45 p.m. on Polk Street just east of Dronfield Avenue.

According to police, the hit-and-run driver in a 2011 Dodge Ram pick-up truck was headed eastbound on Polk Avenue when he collided with a 2000 Toyota Corolla.

The impact of the collision caused the Dodge Ram to roll over and collide with several parked cars.

After being helped out of the wreckage, authorities say 23-year-old Gabriel Ochoa of Sylmar left the scene.

According to LAPD Media Relations, Ochoa turned himself into the Valley Traffic Division shortly after the accident.

The driver and passenger of the Corolla, both residents of Sylmar, were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.

They were identified as Roman John Jimenez Jr. and passenger, Anahi Donis, who was ejected from the car upon impact.

Bail for Ochoa was set at $50,000. He was being held at Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of felony hit and run, police said.

Anyone with more information about this case was asked to contact Valley Traffic Division Detectives at (818) 644-8116.
