Officer Seriously Injured In 2-Vehicle Crash

MANHATTAN BEACH (CBS) — A two vehicle crash involving a Manhattan Beach police cruiser left two people, including an officer, injured, officials said.

The accident happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday on Sepulveda Boulevard.

An officer was responding to priority call when his patrol car collided with a Honda SUV driven by a woman, Manhattan Beach police said.

The officer was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital where he was upgraded to stable condition Thursday, according to authorities.

"He was awake and alert when our chief went over there and met with him and he was a little shook up . . . and that's to be expected after a collision like this. It looks like he's going to be ok as well," Lt. Any Harrod said.

The female driver was transported to the hospital as a precaution. She was treated and released, officials said.

It was unclear if the officer was speeding or had his lights and sirens on when the collision occurred.

A SigAlert was issued overnight at Sepulveda and Manhattan Beach boulevards as police investigated the crash. The accident scene is expected to be cleared by 10 a.m.
