Pedestrian, 39, Struck And Killed By Alleged DUI

CATHEDRAL CITY (CBS) — A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a car driven by a 49-year-old drunken driver in Cathedral City, according to police.

Lourdes Jauregui, 39, of Cathedral City, was hit near Converse Road and Date Palm Drive about 1:45 a.m. and declared dead at the scene, Cathedral City police Sgt. Corwin de Veas said.

James Coley, of Newport Beach, showed signs of intoxication and told police he had earlier been drinking at a Palm Springs bar. He was booked for suspicion of drunken driving.

A man who was reportedly accompanying Jauregui, a parolee name "Rafa," fled before police could obtain a witness statement.

All lanes of Date Palm Drive between Converse and Gerald Ford roads were closed for more than two hours while police investigated.
