WESTMINSTER (AP) — Orange County prosecutors say a Huntington Beach man has been sentenced to 65 years to life in prison in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a 7-year-old developmentally disabled girl.
Spokeswoman Farrah Emami says 30-year-old Daniel Vlas Flores was sentenced Friday after being convicted in April of felony sex with a child, sodomy and other crimes.
Prosecutors say Flores dragged the girl to his apartment and assaulted her while she was playing with a neighbor on Aug. 19, 2009.
She escaped after her friend came to the apartment looking for her and cracked open the door.
The victim told her mother of the assault and Flores was arrested the same day. DNA also linked him to the crime.
The victim’s father says the girl is still in therapy and recovering.
